PETITE MUNSTER GÉROMÉ
Cow's Milk Cheese
France (AOC)
Aged: 3 months
Benedictine monks in the Alsace-Lorraine region, located in the extreme northwest corner of France along the German border, began producing this world-renowned pungent cheese in the early Middle Ages. Though Munster started its life as a bloomy rind, it evolved into the notoriously stinky washed-rind cheese around the 13th century. The creamy paste of the small wheel is deliciously supple, turning runny at room temperature. And though the taste is deeply flavorful, rich & meaty, it only echoes the funky barnyard aroma slightly. Our small wheel (125 g or 7 oz.) comes from the Hexaire dairy, a reputable maker of an organic pasteurized Munster. *Availability varies
